In honour of African Penguin Awareness Day, we proudly stood by SANCCOB as they released a remarkable 16 African Penguins at the picturesque Waters Edge in Simons Town on October 11, 2023. Our presence at this heartwarming event was a testament to the gratitude we hold for the Mouse Free Marion prizes that we wholeheartedly contributed to SANCCOB.
Though unforeseen circumstances prevented us from conducting our anticipated lucky draw during the Flock to Marion 2022, the generous spirit of our sponsors prevailed. Each sponsor graciously agreed to redirect their donated prizes towards a cause that truly matters, and the choice was clear: SANCCOB, a stalwart defender of our beloved seabirds.
As we join the global celebration of World Penguin Day, our hearts are filled with memories of the incredible penguin species we encountered on the Flock to Marion 2023 – an astounding four species in all. SANCCOB released 16 African Penguins, two adults, 12 Juveniles (rescued or abandoned chicks) and two hand-reared Juveniles that were originally collected as abandoned eggs that had to be incubated.
