The beautiful Pelicans and Flamingos frequent our local dams all the time. We drive past these dams daily, but never stop to take a minute or two to sit and appreciate how special they really are. This is what made us decide to go for a short walk to the local dam and take our cameras along. Well done to Alex for capturing these beautiful birds doing what Flamingos and Pelicans do.
Flamingo taking off…
Flamingo landing.
Flamingos squabble all the time. You only realise this when you sit and watch them from close by.
Pelican flying low and coming in for a landing
Pelicans use their feet to skee on the water prior to their landing
More of the flock of Pelicans landing…
Fishing in groups is how they catch their prey with ease
This Pelican had about 4 fish in his mouth, and he refused to share with the rest of them. You can see how upset they are that he is not sharing the fish. He kept these fish in his beak for a long time before he swallowed them. Notice also the very young pelican (dark in colour) in the background. So cute!

Hi there,
Thank you for your kind words. These waters are bordering the Milnerton Golf Course, they are scattered around this area.
