The main attraction of Namaqualand National Park is undoubtedly its world-famous wildflower displays. Each year, during the spring season (August to October), the semi-arid desert of Namaqualand erupts in a riot of colours as countless wildflowers bloom. Location Bird Island is situated on the West Coast of South Africa, approximately 280 kilometres north of Cape Town. Prions (pachyptila) Afrikaans: Walvisvoel | Prion is derived from the Greek for ‘saw‘, referring to the serrated margin of the upper mandible created by a series of palatal lamellae. These filter small prey, functioning similarly to baleen in whales, giving the Prions the nickname of Whale-birds.

The Cape Rockjumper is an intriguing bird species native to South Africa’s mountainous regions. We are heading to Madagascar, searching for some of the natural wonders of this unique Island. Exploring this enchanting continent to marvel at its unique Baobabs, Singing Lemurs and endemic birds, one being the Helmet Vanga. All our research and learning are hopefully about to become a real-life experience. Capturing and documenting some wonderful images and videos along the way. We hope that by sharing our experiences, we can expose the plight of both the people as well as the Fauna and Flora of Madagascar. To say we are excited is an understatement; we are literally counting the sleeps.
CRITICALLY ENDANGERED. L, 200 pairs breed annually, almost all on Gough Island; only 1 or 2 pairs breed on an Inaccessible slat in the Tristan da Cunha group yearly. It remains mainly in the South Atlantic, but some non-br birds disperse into the Indian Ocean, reaching Australia.
